Building a Wedding Ceremony

I've been working with Tarot cards lately as an additional mini-at-home therapy session, and in addition to finding them incredibly helpful and grounding, I enjoy the archetypes that are present throughout the cards, and have been working with the Linestrider deck by Siolo Thompson. So today I plan on drawing some cards in order to construct a ceremony around them.

I started by purposely drawing The Lovers, since it seemed properly thematic, and then gave the cards a good proper shuffle, and drew three more underneath as supporting themes and context.

The Lovers - This card uses all five senses to represent the completeness of the relationship that the humans are entering into, the idea that it is all complete and encompassing, not a flash-in-the-pan. The strong bonds of love, friendship, companionship, and sexual attraction round out the relationship to make it more satisfying than any other they have experienced.

The Empress - Fitting that we have the card that rules over marriage, fertility, the beginning of families and settling down as our first card! This is not ball-and-chain settling, with the loving gentle theme of this card we can weave the relaxing sigh of "there you are" into the ceremony, showcasing the love of the couple, and their desire to solidify their future together; a very fitting introduction to the ceremony. This is typically where I would share with those gathered with us the story of the couple, how they came to be standing here today, and their desires for the future.

Six of Cups -  In constructing the body of the ceremony, this card suggests the theme of child-like joy and happiness, playfulness and youthfulness fill the lives of the couple today as they stand giddy at the altar. Reveling in that joy is my favorite part of being an officiant, I get the up-close view of how they cannot stop smiling at each other. I'm glad I drew this card for the middle of the ceremony, it represents all that joy shared by the couple.

Judgement - Our final card is a call to an awakening, that permanent life changes are here, and to enter into them with open eyes. A fitting way to end the ceremony, sending the couple off as we trumpet their love, and their willingness to permanently change their lives for each other as a unit, and for each other as individuals. Much self-reflection has gone into the decision they have just made, and we have just witnessed the outcome of those many long conversations and big decisions. More big life decisions await them, but they will not have to make those decisions alone.

I love how this spread turned out! I have enjoyed using the cards as themes for brainstorming, it makes for excellent prompting of the creative spirit.
